Protecting Environment in Mining Sector

Based in Guyana, Barry Kevin O’Rourke serves as director of S.A.B. Mining. In this capacity, he oversees the buying and selling of precious minerals and metals in the country and the mining of diamonds and other precious metals. Additionally, Barry Kevin O’Rourke strives to meet best practices for environmental protection and safety.

While there is no way to eliminate the environmental effects of the mining industry completely, mining operations have made significant gains toward reducing environmental trauma. While in the past mining activity often resulted in sinkholes and erosion as well as a loss of biodiversity in surrounding areas, today mining companies work to restore land to its natural state once mining operations are complete.

Additionally, the implementation of newer technology, specifically green technology, eliminates much of the excess use in mining. Waste management efforts are more effective thanks to this technology, and the use of solar energy makes the mining sector more sustainable. Further, the use of these technologies improves the safety of the mining sector for employees.

Moreover, government mining regulations worldwide are set in place to protect the environment. Mining companies must adhere to stringent rehabilitation and environmental codes that minimize environmental impact.
