A Brief Look at Guyana Gold Production

Based in Georgetown, Guyana, Barry Kevin O ‘Rourke is a mining executive who has served as the managing director of S.A.B. Mining since 2016. In this capacity, Barry Kevin O ‘Rourke oversees the firm’s gold mining activities on over 30,000 acres of land allocated by the Guyana government.

Guyana's gold mining sector is located on the mineral-rich Guyana Shield in South America. The industry has consistently prospected for gold in the underexplored region since the 1900s. The lowest Guyana annual gold production record was approximately 3,307 pounds in 1990. Documentation of annual gold production in Guyana also began in 1990. Between 1990 and 2019, the highest Guyana gold production occurred in 2016, as the U.S. Geological Survey reported 48,872 pounds of gold production.

As of 2021, gold constitutes 8.8 percent of Guyana's economic output and is the prime precious metal. Miners also prospect for precious minerals like diamonds and bauxite in the country. Guyana is also a feasible niche for suppliers of specialized drilling services, mining equipment, remote sensing devices, and geo-referencing tracking devices.
